A birthday, a birthday, and back to school

August---full of birthdays and then onto eeeek--"school".  The mere mention of it sends shivers down my spine.  But, I will acknowledge its upcoming presence by the end of  this post.  First, I just wanted to share a few quick cards with you that I made using the Polaroid frames from Unique Laser Designs.  Yes, you can use them to frame a photo, but look how cute they are on a card!

On this ice cream card, I colored the frame with a creamy metallic silver gelato.  The little hexagon is colored with a sparkly gel pen. Did you guess that the scoop of the ice cream is really a cloud? I'm so sneaky!  I colored that with a Copic marker and then swirled Stickles (rock candy)on to make it sparkle.

Hexagons are the theme for this next card.  I dry embossed a hexagon pattern on the card and then added a  Unique Laser Design Polaroid frame---this time I used a paint marker to color it black. The small wood hexagons with the sentiments-- I rubbed on different ink pads, just like I did the cute bee (see below)---easy easy easy and quick!

I used a Sharpie to color the black stripes on the bee and then covered it (really thick) with a layer of Stickles (rock candy again). It looks like a suncatcher--so crackly and sparkly at the same time.

Now, onto school.  My daughter is going to be in 5th grade and is SO excited to find out who her homeroom teacher will be.  To celebrate that first day of school, I used a Unique Laser Designs ATC card and made a chalkboard by painting on a few layers of chalkboard paint before adding some die-cut letters and leaving some room to write with chalk.  A few strings of twine hot-glued onto the back and it's ready to hang around a soda bottle.  Now, it's re-usable and her teacher can pass a message on and  be "soda-lighted" for someone else (for a birthday, a great test score, a travelling award around the classroom).

Hope you are "soda-lighted" with these projects that you are feeling inspired to celebrate a birthday, a birthday and school!

It's summer...time for a new banner

In my never-ending effort to have a year-ful of seasonal decorations (all hand-made by me), I am finally feeling like it is time to recognize summer.  My last day of school is tomorrow and I am THRILLED--ready for some relaxation and a whole lot of nothin'.

So, to celebrate...I used these banner shapes from Unique Laser Designs.  I covered them with patterned paper and added burlap letters, a vellum die-cut doily shape, and more wood summer shapes all from Unique Laser Designs.

I colored the shapes (the cute bee, flowers, stars, ladybug, and watering can) with Copic markers.  I LOVE how the natural color of the wood softens the colors from the markers so that you get a subtle intensity.

For these daisies below, I covered them in white ink and then dipped them in UTEE a couple times to get an extra-thick shine.  I added clear buttons and white twine and I think they just scream SUMMER!

So, what are you screaming now that summer is finally arriving?
How about, "Can I have more crafty time please?!"

Don't forget, Unique Laser Designs is looking for their next design team---it could include YOU!

Mini Embellishments

Hello, Kimberly here with a few mini embellishments.

I love creating mini albums!  I also love mini versions of my favorite Wood Embellishments from Unique Laser Designs.  Did you know that most of their designs come in two sizes?  Yep.. perfect for my mini albums.

Here are just a few mini albums and a few examples of where the mini embellishments came in handy.  I did use a few of the regular size embellishments.. so they are not all mini's.

4 recent mini albums where I added ULD embellishments.

See the golden bee sticking out behind the flower.

Hot Air Balloons.. not a mini but one of my favorite.

Mini feather fit perfect on a mini tag.

An ATC from ULD was covered then I added a
mini Polaroid. See the mini heart on the tag?

another mini Polaroid frame waiting for a picture

another feather and heart

love the mini scissors

Check out the page on the website featuring the MINI's.. I am sure you will find several that you want to add to your collection.  Mini's are perfect plain, painted, stamped on, colored, etc.. they are also perfect for any of your craft projects.  Check out more of this blog to find more creative ideas from other designers.  Have a great day!  Kimberly
