Desktop Display

Hi everyone! This is Martha Lucia with my first project in Unique Laser Designs! I am very excited to share this with you. My project is a "Desktop Display" that I altered with a few things. Let me show you.

I start by selecting two products from ULD Store, which was the most difficult part because I was shocked by all these options. But I needed to start with something, I took the wheelbarrow and the shaped circles in wood. 

Then I used different colors of Tim Holtz distress ink to color the circles and after they dried, which only took a few seconds, I stamped them with  Memento Tuxedo Black with a text stamp.

For the wheelbarrow I used a patina technique with VerDayProducts in Bronze Color. I love this effect over the wheel and handles.  The steps to get this effect  are too easy, I only needed to paint the wheelbarrow with bronze paint and after it dried I sprayed it with VerDay Patina Solution. Note the details:

The base of my desktop was natural wood, so I painted it with a Red Wood Stain from Ikea. I let it dry and then I cut a little small piece of designer paper for the stand.  

To decorate the stand I cut some words  in card stock Rich Razzleberry using my die cutting machine and framelits or cutting templates from Little Yellow Bicycle.

As I was thinking of a display, I decided to decorate some journal cards with gold glimmer paper , staples and bakers twine, so I can interchange the board message every day. 

To keep these cards in place I created to decorate a paper clip with metal on topper, using a piece of Polished Purple Metal Sheet from Add a Little Dazzle and the design of one embossing folder. I pasted the piece of metal with Sticky strip to keep this in place over the black part of my paper clip.

The last part of my project was the assembly. And I decided to top the wheelbarrow with some little paper flowers. I pasted the circles and the wheelbarrow with dimensionals to give more dimension to the project.

Burst of Color

Hi everyone, it's Heidi here again to show you some more inspiration using the gorgeous ULD goodies.  Today I have created a layout with burst of spring colors since we will be going into Spring next week (here in NZ)

To start off with I applied Gesso to plain white cardstock, then used some yellow water colour paint to the background.  After that I used my Prima dots stencil and applied some whipped spackle to create some texture.

Then the fun began, I used some gelato's to color the circles in different colors, the make them darker once they dried I went around the ends with normal water color pencils.

I used plain gesso on the frame , which gave it a nice soft look, and then layered my papers on top of that with my photo.

To give it some extra dimension I have added some hearts and circles which again I painted with gesso and then went over it with White Prima Chalk Ink.  For the heart same I added some texture paste with a stencil.

And finally finished with some beautiful flowers to match, and some other bits and pieces - love the plain white chipboard on the cardstock, it just looks fabbo!

Changing Sea-sons

                                              Do Not Throw Away Any Wood Scraps!

Scraps to treasure, I say.  Okay, so I am a scraps hoarder!  Well, paper and wood.  When I receive my orders from ULD, sometimes I have little extra pieces of wood from the item and I save them in one of the zip bags I've received.

Some of the scraps have water shapes, other like above; is the inside of the starfish!  I painted that little inside and dotted with fine line black liner marker.  It looks like a starfish too.

Here is the wood I used:

The "Brick Wall Stencil," one of the word squares that comes with is used, and the star fish is the insert of the star fish.

The seaweed is scraps from orders put together.

My last post, I showed encaustics (hot wax) on wood.  Here is a scrap of wax works that I mounted a few times.  This will serve as the ocean floor with the light of the sun shinning in.

Not as visible in this photo, but I painted the seahorse, added accents with a Gelly Roll pen (added color and blended with finger before it dries), and added dots with a stamp and ink pad.

The bubbles are achieved by using white pigment ink first.  I could of pained with Gesso, but it was easier to just use the ink and then paint over.

Little dashes of white over the orange bubbles make them look more dimensional.

The starfish and seaweed are laid out where I want to put them.  Both are painted, and as I mentioned above, the starfish when finished will have the little black dots.  The fish is painted with a medium orange and darker permanent dye orange ink tapped on top.

Here is a close up of the details.  I also splattered yellow paint lightly around the area.

To finish the art, I used a scrap of Bo Bunny paper.  The hook is added using a bit of glitter Gelly Roll pen to color and an arrow added.  It is painted in 2 shades of green.

I used the word "Joy" from the Brick Wall Stencil.  It is edged in yellow.

In St. Louis, MO., the weather will be warm and humid for a few months, but for most; the seasons are going to change from summer to fall.  There still is time to get out there and do some fishing!

Look at things in a different way.  For scrappers, a photo could be put in to replace the wax background and do the same treatment.  Create mixing and matching your wood pieces.  The octopus or dolphin could be designed in the art instead of he fish.  Your choices are unlimited!!!

What's your medium?

Hello Unique Laser Design Fans!

Today I am showing you just 20 different things you can add to your wood embellishments from ULD.  Yes only 20.. I will do another set of 20 in a few weeks.  Who knows there might even be more.

Here are just a few ideas.. I did use one product twice so if you see 21 examples.. keep in mind the Tim Holtz distress crackle paint was used twice, once with broken china and once with fired brick.

I used the stars and circles from ULD as my samples. 

Tulip fabric paint, Stickles, Liquid Pearls, Distress Paint, Distress Marker, Colored Pencil,
Heidi Swapp Archival Dye, Distress crackle paint.  All of these mediums were just one coat.  All of them
covered the wood to match their true color except for the Heidi Swapp ink.  You can see that star looks more green.

 

Glossy accents, Acrylic Paint, Chalkboard paint, Distress stain,
Distress Embossing powder, Stazon ink.
Every one of these products was true to the color and look
awesome in person.  I love the glossy accents and the stamped
images on the wood. Are you getting any ideas? 

Distress crackle paint (again), Glitter, Glimmer Glaze, Color Shine,
Creative Impressions Paint, Copic Marker, Liquid Applique.
All of them look true to their color except for the copic marker, it looked more pink
but if I did more coats it may of been more purple.  I love the glitter and liquid
applique.. it looks so cool in person. 

 

After seeing 20 different things you can add to the Unique Laser Designs embellishments I hope you start to look around your craft room for more ideas.  Remember I only did one coat.. you can add more coats and get more color.  But I really liked the results.
