Good Ol' Spice Rack

Hello Everybody!

Katy here, and I have a fun refurbished project to show you today.

I was wandering around my local thrift store looking for treasures when I looked and saw this:

A spice rack!  And instantly I knew what I wanted to use it for.  No-not spices-but to hold embossing powders and glitters.  Will it hold all of my collection?  I am afraid not-but it sure is a fun start!  (They all live in a shallow plastic container now.)

So for $2.99 I took home my treasure.  And I cleaned it with clorox wipes and when it was dried-I painted a couple of coats of gesso on it.  Then I picked out my wood pieces to liven up this spice rack.

I used the following pieces:

Border Swirl I (set of 2) (Large)

Daisies (5 pc set) (2 pks)

Corner A (set of 4)

So once I placed my pieces, my biggest obstacle was deciding what the color scheme was going to be.  I love the color green-so that is what color I painted it.  My accents are yellow.  

Here is the finished spice rack.  You could see the word outline "spices" so I took light modeling paste, yellow craft paint, and the sunburst Tim Holtz stencil and stenciled over the middle area.  Also, the yellow paint I used was called sunshine pearl.  The pearl means it had a shine.  After the green paint was dry I mixed the yellow with water to create a glaze over the green paint.  

For the corners I put a little Inka Gold on them.  You can see one of these things is not like the other. ;)

Here are the daisies with pearls for centers.  (I love these flowers!)  2 of this middle size come in a pack so I used a second pack to get the 3rd flower.

The Arrows Point Here!

Hello Everybody!

I have a fun scrapbook layout to share with you all today!

For this layout I used small & large arrows, a brick, and a small border swirl I.

(For this layout I just used happy, but look at a few of the cool bricks that come with the brick stencil!)

So here are the closeups of the pieces on the layout.

First I painted gesso on all of the arrow pieces.  Then I painted Tim Holtz's Distress Paint on all of the arrows.  I used the following paint colors: spiced marmalade, peeled paint, picked raspberry, chipped sapphire, and mustard seed.

Then I glued a Happy Brick under the photo.  I love the natural color of this brick against all of the color and felt heart.

Here is my journaling square, and I have more arrows pointing to it.

I used the swirl under my titled.  I painted it mustard seed first (sans gesso) and then spiced marmalade.  The yellow blended into the background (which I thought it might--but I had to try!)

These pieces were super fun to use.  I know we will enjoy looking back on this page and enjoy not only the picture and the memory, but the ULD pieces that help keep our memories alive. :)

Mixed Media Wooden Tag

Hello Friends!

My name is Katy, and I am apart of the Design Team here at Unique Laser Designs!  It is so exciting to be apart of something so new!  And you too get to be apart of our new adventure!

First, let me tell you a little bit about me.  I am happily married, and we have a wonderful son.  We also have 3 fur babies (cats).  I enjoy making layouts, cards, tags, mixed media projects, and whatever else I can use paper and embellishments on.  I am beyond excited to be apart of the Unique Laser Design Team.  And I hope that my projects along with my team's projects inspire you.  :)

So let's get to it!  This is my first project for ULD.  I used a Wooden Tag, Border Swirl I, small Music Notes.

I used gesso over the wooden tag.  Then I heat embossed the image in the middle.  Because it's wood it didn't warp or do anything weird (yay!)  Then I covered it (masked it) and painted around it.  I stamped on the right side of it.  The stars were done with light modeling paste and a stencil.  At the bottom are rub-ons.  I glued the swirl and just left it raw.  Using silver paint, I painted the notes.  

And then I glued a little jar to the right corner.  I made a sweet little bouquet!  This adds a little weight but because the tag is made out of wood, it's supported.
