Mixed Media Card

I wanted to create a card that was full of mixed media, grungy, and just have fun getting messy.  Green, gold, and black work so well together it is just too easy to play, you can't go wrong!!

 

 

I used the wonderful little wood star like shapes from Unique Laser Designs.  You can find them in the extras from Kenny'Scraps, one of the little fun items you might get in random assortment pack.

 

I painted each star with Sparkle Medium in Gold to really make these shine and sparkle with the rest of the card.

 

 

Try getting messy, it really is a ton of fun!!

Cub Scouts

My oldest son Morgan is a cub scout.  This is a picture of him as a wolf cub (second year) holding the spirit flag that his den won that month for having the most kids go to the Report to State.  They got to march down in Austin up to the capital building then then get a tour.  So proud of my scout and my wonderful husband for being the den leader!!

I used the wonderful wood stars from Unique Laser Designs to add to the accents of the page. They were just the perfect touch for this page.

Large Stars - Wood

I first treated the stars by inked the edges with a chalk ink in a brown, just to soften the edges and make them look a bit distressed.  

I then treated the stars with one of two centers before placing them on the layout.  For three stars I took the small scout emblem sticker and placed it in the center.  The other three stars I placed a green pearl in the center.

O Christmas Tree!

Hello Everybody!

Today is my last post for Unique Laser Designs.  I have had such a wonderful time creating with their wonderful wood embellishments.  I have made projects that would never have been made without these great versatile pieces.  Also, I have learned and been inspired by the ULD Design Team.  They are fantastic and I will continue to keep up with their projects.

So what to make for my last project?  That was tough but I am in the Christmas mood (not worries I haven't forgotten about Thanksgiving.) ;)

So I have these little trees from Tim Holtz.

After a little water and distress ink (mowed grass) the tree is now green.

While it dried, I picked out my "ornaments!"  

Here is a list of what I used:  Christmas Mini Shapes (mine were special order in cork)

                                               Butterflies (Small and Large) 

                                               (the heart lg I didn't use)

Instruments (10 pc set)

These little pieces are the insides to other things that I found floating my one of my ULD containers.  I painted them a metallic blue.

Without further ado, here is my Christmas tree!  I used a gold fiber as the garland around the tree.  The instruments are painted gold with Inka Gold.  Both stars were painted yellow but the large one had yellow Stickles put over the paint.  The butterfly I left as but glued it on its side.  The gingerbread man and reindeer have details added to them by a felt tip pen.  I glued one blue ornament on.

Since this is a display tree I didn't go all the way around with ornaments.  I did hot glue the ornaments on.  

This tree measures 6 inches and that's with the star.

Tag Fridge Magnet Tutorial

Hi Ladies, I'm back again this week to show you a cute this project I made as a gift for my mother, using these two products from the Shop.

W-2007 Stars (15pc Set; Sm & Lg) (5) 1" x 1"; (10) ½" x ½"

W-1109 Tags (3pc Set) 3½" x 6½"

Firstly you need to prepare your tag, I painted the tag with Orange Marmelade Distress Ink and then applied some gesso on top of it.  The Gesso came out a nice peachy colour.  Let it dry.

Next take take a small of piece of patterned paper and stick it down.  Take you favorite mask or stencil and using some Versamark Watermark Stamp pad go over your stencil.

Now apply some coloured Embossing Powder and heat with a Heat Gun

Apply some smaller strips of patterned paper and adhere you photo, and some extra embellishments.  I have used stars

Once completed take an old fridge magnet and adhere it to the back of the Tag, and voila your Fridge Magnet is completed.  I used a glue gun to stick my magnet down.

A very simple inexpensive gift which is extra special.

What's your medium?

Hello Unique Laser Design Fans!

Today I am showing you just 20 different things you can add to your wood embellishments from ULD.  Yes only 20.. I will do another set of 20 in a few weeks.  Who knows there might even be more.

Here are just a few ideas.. I did use one product twice so if you see 21 examples.. keep in mind the Tim Holtz distress crackle paint was used twice, once with broken china and once with fired brick.

I used the stars and circles from ULD as my samples. 

Tulip fabric paint, Stickles, Liquid Pearls, Distress Paint, Distress Marker, Colored Pencil,
Heidi Swapp Archival Dye, Distress crackle paint.  All of these mediums were just one coat.  All of them
covered the wood to match their true color except for the Heidi Swapp ink.  You can see that star looks more green.

 

Glossy accents, Acrylic Paint, Chalkboard paint, Distress stain,
Distress Embossing powder, Stazon ink.
Every one of these products was true to the color and look
awesome in person.  I love the glossy accents and the stamped
images on the wood. Are you getting any ideas? 

Distress crackle paint (again), Glitter, Glimmer Glaze, Color Shine,
Creative Impressions Paint, Copic Marker, Liquid Applique.
All of them look true to their color except for the copic marker, it looked more pink
but if I did more coats it may of been more purple.  I love the glitter and liquid
applique.. it looks so cool in person. 

 

After seeing 20 different things you can add to the Unique Laser Designs embellishments I hope you start to look around your craft room for more ideas.  Remember I only did one coat.. you can add more coats and get more color.  But I really liked the results.

Stamping with Stars~

Happy July 1st~ 

I love July 4th Home Décor projects, so today's project shows you how to use the ULD stars to create a fun project. I wanted to use the stars in a different way.  So I decided to stamp with them.

I hot glued my stars from ULD to the flat bottom of my colored pencils.  Just dip them in the paints of your choice.. and stamp!  Super Easy.. and FUN~

I am sure you have all seen the famous 3 mason jars painted to look like the flag.. it's all over pinterest, blogs, instagram, etc.. I can't take credit for this project but I really don't know who started it.. I have seen it done tons of times.  Some people made it look picture perfect and some went more rustic and sanded down the edges and distressed the glass.. that's the look I like.

Here is a photo of the products I used.. See the star glued to a pencil.. I love that idea!

Here is my finished set, distressed to impress.

I then used the stars for my drinking glass.  This time I used 3 different color stars.  Once you are done stamping w/ the star you can take it off the pencil and use if for another project.

Done and ready for my lemonade.

It's summer...time for a new banner

In my never-ending effort to have a year-ful of seasonal decorations (all hand-made by me), I am finally feeling like it is time to recognize summer.  My last day of school is tomorrow and I am THRILLED--ready for some relaxation and a whole lot of nothin'.

So, to celebrate...I used these banner shapes from Unique Laser Designs.  I covered them with patterned paper and added burlap letters, a vellum die-cut doily shape, and more wood summer shapes all from Unique Laser Designs.  

I colored the shapes (the cute bee, flowers, stars, ladybug, and watering can) with Copic markers.  I LOVE how the natural color of the wood softens the colors from the markers so that you get a subtle intensity.

For these daisies below, I covered them in white ink and then dipped them in UTEE a couple times to get an extra-thick shine.  I added clear buttons and white twine and I think they just scream SUMMER!

So, what are you screaming now that summer is finally arriving?
How about, "Can I have more crafty time please?!"

You Are A Star Card

Hello Unique Laser Design fans, Michelle here to share a simple card that could be used for many occasions, especially if you swap out one shape for another. 

 

 I used the small stars for this card but you could easily use any of the mini shapes available.

 

I layered a couple pieces of patterned paper for the base of this card and added some stickers and 5 small ULD stars.  I love this card just like this.  It's quick, simple and if you changed the background color this could easily be a masculine card.

 

 And even though those stars are gorgeous without any altering, I added a little bit of gold stickles to give them a more feminine look.
