Christmas Tags With Cork Accents

 Hello everyone!  I have finally gotten into the Christmas spirit and have crafted something Christmassy.  Not bad for me since there are still 36 days until Christmas.  Usually I would make something like this at 11 pm on Christmas Eve!  Just call me "Last Minute Lee."

There are plenty of Christmas wrapping products that you can go out and purchase to make your life easier.  One of those products are the sticker to/from labels that you're supposed to slap onto your gift.  You know the kind I'm talking about?  The package of 300 labels that you can only use 10 of because all the others are too small to actually write a person's name on?  The ones that get stored for years in your Christmas things and wind up losing their stickiness?

This year I decided to make my own to/from tags. I used last year's left over Christmas scrapbook patterned paper, red card stock, and kraft paper.  I'm always looking for ways to use my scraps.  I'm positive that someone else out there has a dedicated container (box, drawer, storage shed, etc) full of Christmas crafting supplies.  Right?  Anyone?

I have used my Silhouette machine to cut these tags.  If you want, leave me a comment and I will share my file.  These tags can be made without fancy machines though.  You would only need a circle punch large enough to display the cork accent.

The mini Christmas shapes are cut out of cork.  I decided to give them a wash of ink so that the cork texture would remain visible.  To do this I scribbled marker onto to a craft mat and added water.  Then I slid the cork shape through the inky puddle.

Mmmmm! Lunch With Max

Well, howdy there new friends!  It's Renee Robbins here from Scrap Owl with today's blog post.  I'm so excited that I get to hang out with the sweet folks over here at uniQue Laser Designs for a couple of months.  They have already been super gracious and all of the projects I have seen have been incredibly inspiring.

I've had a great time working with the various products I received from uniQue Laser Designs.  Once I got started playing with the wood and cork embellishments I just couldn't stop!  For this post, I wanted to share this sweet layout I completed of my beautiful nephew... well, he's beautiful in one photo, but a messy little monster in the other.  Ha!

Making A Messy Masterpiece

So, as a proud Aunt, I have to confess that the title of this section is really about my nephew and not the layout, but using the pieces from uniQue Laser Designs certainly helped elevate my page to the next level.  To create it I used the Large Wacky Mmmmm  as the title.  The foundation is cork and I didn't do anything extra to it since it was simply perfect the way it was.  But, when I splattered my Pear Tart irRESISTible texture spray, the title did happen to get a little coating.  All part of the fun, I say!

However, in addition to the title, I also used wood Splats to dress up the page.  The Splats come in a 6 splat set, but I only needed to use four of them for the optimal effect.  Plus, this way I have two more for another project!!

To dress up my splats, I heat embossed them using Recollections Pearl Embossing Powder.  The clear shine that the pearl provides to the wood gives it an almost translucent metallic look.  Depending on the way the light hits the Splat, you can see the wood grain or it looks silver.  Certainly a cool effect.

Just a Few More Details

Also on this layout, I used Pink Paislee's Solstice Bora Bora patterned paper for the foundation, Studio Calico's South of Market Lettuce, Turnip the Beet for the circle, Pebbles' Jen Hadfield Homemade 1905 Pine for the banner, and Chickaniddy Crafts' Scrumptious for the stripes and journaling stickers.

Marbling Mixed Media Tutorial Using Unique Laser Design's Cork Feathers!

Today, I will share how I created my Week #39 Title card for my pocket scrapbooking layout using these Unique Laser Design's SUPER AMAZING cork feathers. 

Unique Laser Design's Cork Feathers

Okay, let's get started:

Started with a piece of 4 x 6 patterned 
scrapbooking paper.

Pulled 2 shallow pans from my kitchen.

Purchased this Linit Liquid Starch
at my local grocery store.

Poured just enough liquid starch to cover the bottom of one pan.

Added just enough tap water to cover the bottom of the other pan.

Selected these paint colors from my stash that compliment my pocket scrapbooking 
layout this week. NOTE: FLUID PAINT performs
 better that regular acrylic paint
for this marbling mixed media technique. 

Added drops of paint, one color at a time in the pan with the liquid starch. Golden Fluorescent Pink fluid 
& Americana Electric Pink acrylic paint drops.

DecoArt Diarylide Yellow fluid acrylic paint drops.

DecoArt Cobalt Teal fluid acrylic paint drops.

DecoArt Raw Umber fluid acrylic paint drops.

Used the end of a paint brush to swirl the colors together
to create my desired marbling pattern in the surface.

Placed the patterned paper (pattern face down) 
on top of the marbled paint surface & immediately removed from the starch pan. 
Immediately placed the marbled side down 
into the pan of water to rinse off the
excess starch & removed from the
 pan of water immediately.

Dried completely (a heat gun works great).

Added an additional layer of color with KaiserCraft's Script background stamp
and Ranger's Dandelion Archival Ink.

Added "Week #39" using 'Sketchbook" 
Thickers by American Crafts.

Added dates with the Dear Lizzy roller date stamp.

Outlined "Week #39" with a black
 Signo Uniball pen.

Added a scalloped doodle stamp by 
Roben-Marie Smith (Paperbag Studios).

Added three cork feathers from Unique Laser Designs.

Doodled around the scallops & feathers
 with a white Signo Uniball pen.

Doodled two black border lines with a 
black Signo Uni-Ball pen.

Added bling rhinestones
 to the centers of the scallops 
with a UHU glue stick.

Distressed the edges of the patterned 
paper with black Heidi Swapp Archival Ink.

And, VIOLA' ~ My Week #39 
Pocket Scrapbooking Title Card is COMPLETE!
