Inspire

For the past couple of years my parents have bought us a box of really tummy chocolates for the family and it comes in this wonderful hinged box.  I have kept the boxes with the hopes of doing something with it for the past two years, and finally the inspiration hit - mixed media box!!  I really just let my imagination fly on this one

It is projects like this where I get all messy and hand full of paint that make me love crafting so much.  Seeing something coming from a simple little box to this wonderful mixed media piece make me smile!  I hope this box has inspired you to make something pretty.

My Angel Wings

Hi there, it's Martha Lucia here! I hope you are very inspired with all our creations. Today I want to invite you to fly with me. I am using the Angel Wings to create a beautiful frame.

When I saw these wings, I knew I wanted to do something special. So I decided to create a frame that I can exhibit in my Atelier and show you all my spirit. I starting to give color to the Angel Wings. I chose these in MDF, but they are available in chipboard too. For my wings I used a product called Inka Gold in color Turquoise mixed with water.

You can apply the Inka Gold directly over the wings with you hands. The MDF or Wood material perfectly keeps the metallic shine of this product. 

After I finished the wings, I created the background of my frame. I bought a plain frame from IKEA, I took off the papers  and sized the total window and my real space was 5"x7".

I took a piece of Very Vanilla Card Stock and a Memory Box Stencil called Distressed Grid and using a blending tool and Antique Linen Distress Ink to create the texture.

The next step was the flower. To create this I used a Spellbinders Die called Spiral Blossom Four that I cut in very vanilla card stock using the BigShot.

To give more dimension to the flower I decided to apply this Powder Puff Chalk Ink Caribbean Blue from Quick Quotes all over the border. This  color offered my the perfect match that I needed. 

After this, I rolled up the flower and pasted it with my glue gun of silicone. To decorate the center of the flower I put a Doubleclick Skittle in the same color from So Suzy Stamps.

The final step was pasting all over the background. First I inserted the decorated very vanilla piece into the frame and then I pasted all my pieces with sheer glue.

The Fun Stuff

Hello there from a very freezing cold New Zealand.  Today I am going to share a layout I have done using these gorgeous deco frames...

W-0404 Deco Frame - Rhonda (Opening 2¾” Round) 5" Round

I decided to emboss the frame with some silver embossing powder, and just loved the lovely shine it gave the frame, and from there I chose my colour combo for the layout.  I decided on green, teal and black.  The actual layout is very simple and just has washi tape underneath the frame, but I wanted to keep it fairly plain because I wanted the frame to be main focus of the photo and page.

here is a little close up of the frame.

To balance the silver embossed frame I embossed the little wooden heart as well and then put some rubons on the heart.

To finish the layout off, I added some flowers and more rubons on top of the washi tape and there you go a lovely layout completed.

Chimes Time

Hello Everybody!

I am super excited to show you what I made with Unique Laser Designs today.  There are a lot of pictures so get ready!  :)

I made chimes!  Here is a picture of the chimes.  I will show you what I was inspired by and my different "findings" that add an eclectic flair.

It all started with this Deco Frame-Rhonda.  I thought oh this will look great on a scrapbook page.  So I am looking at it and then I change the direction that I am holding.  And then it hits me-This could be the base of chimes.

So first I paint this frame with white acrylic paint.  And then I realize I should paint it black!

While that is drying I go through my scrappy things for "findings"--the fun stuff that will bring this to life.

So I put this aside and get out silver beads and some beading wire.  Alert-I do not make jewelry but I have a few little things from projects and Halloween costumes-that's how I have some of these things.  :)

I start tying knots and then I strung about 21 beads and tied it to the other side of the flower.  I did this all the way around the frame.  This is tedious but I loved the result-so totally worth it! :)

There is movement in these beads which is perfect for chimes.  I used several strands too-it was not one long strand of wire that did all of these scallops.

The next step is to pick what fun things your are going to string onto the chimes.  This was super hard for me.  So many fun little things to choose from!

In this picture you can see the little white beads.  For the string here I used black embroidery floss-with all of the strands.  These beads have big enough holes to fit over the floss.  Then I added bigger beads and a charm.  This idea of tying the floss to the frame first came halfway.  I was doing the strings then tying them on.  The creative process isn't always a streamlined process.  ;)

The next 2 pictures show the strings of the chimes.  I put some bells so there would be a little jingle.  And do you see what I see?  More Unique Laser Designs pieces!  I used the bird cage and the watering can.  

Here is a different angle.  There are different beads and a star paper clip.  For the ULD cut out pieces-I didn't paint those.  There are some wooden beads too.  I like the wood and the metal and the plastic together.  These elements seem to be working together-Yay! :)

Here is another picture of the chimes "hanging up."  I used a dyed seam binding ribbon for the top so that I can hold it but eventually so it can be hung up.

Altering ULD Deco Frames

Hello Everyone, 

Today I am going to show you what I have done with these gorgeous frames from the shop.  

Firstly they are simply gorgeous just by themselves but by accident as I was using them for a class I was going to teach, I decided to add some texture paste to them.  So firstly I painted it with Gesso and decided I didn't like that look, so decided to use a mask and texture paste on them.  Once it dried I realised I really didn't like the look of it, so decided to just paint the other frames for my class.

This is what the painted frames came out like, all good and completed the class using white paint over the frame, which looked totally gorgeous with the layout as well.

But then I looked at the other frames which I had put texture paste on and thought it would look really cool if I sprayed painted them using Gold Spray Paint, and look how cool they came out, I am thrilled I left it for a while before i decided what I actually wanted to do with the frames, the texture just looks so cool on the frame.

So there you go, sometimes your mistakes aren't that bad after all, and I am definately going to be doing this again.  Here is the final layout using this gorgeous gold frame which just highlights the sail boats in my 6x4 photo.
