Altered Frame

Hello everyone!! I'm excited to be back with you today to share an altered item I created. I really hope to inspire you to take a second look at thrifting, and the things you can create with these treasures. 

What you will see here is the result of a simple frame purchased from the thrift store, turned into a mini album/shadow box.

After distressing the frame and adding the bracket to hold the pages, I began embellishing each page.  I used Unique Laser Designs DF Fran Frame on the cover.  This frame will eventually hold a picture of my son while he was on the beach.

Here's a close up of the distressing I created on the frame using Tim Holtz distress embossing powder.  This particular embossing powder gives the frame a rustic color and texture at the same time.  Almost like a sand type texture.

The second page is reserved for journaling, or a small picture and journaling.  To add a different flare to the floral embellishments, I decided to use feathers instead of leaves to highlight this page.

Here's an up close look of the feathers.  I love that the shape of these feathers compliment the leaves of the trees in this picture.

The following page boast a large feather, which I absolutely love.  Just the right touch for the small page and again beautiful against the leaves in the picture.

Here, I added a portion of the honeycomb stencil to the page.  The wooden honeycomb looks perfect against the honeycomb pattern in the background.  Distressing the honeycomb was truly easy being it has been used on a variety of projects, and already had many colors on it. All I had to do was add a few spritz of blue and yellow to help tie it in to the colors on the page.

Here's a peek of my final page; fairly simple with low layers.  Because this picture is so beautiful, I didn't want to take away from the scene. Guam is truly a beautiful island!

And finally, here is the shadow box portion of my frame:

I had a major ball embellishing the inner portion of this frame.  Instead of sliding the glass back into it's slot, I used E600 glue to adhere it above a section of the frame.  This created a shadow box effect, filled with sea shells, notecard, beads, etc.

Layering with Multiple Wooden Embellishments

Hey there! It's Kisha here sharing two layouts I created, displaying how I use multiple wooden embellishments to create a layered effect on my pages.  Adding wood embellishments to your scrapbook pages adds so much texture, even if you do not distress it more by adding paints, mediums, etc.

On this LO, I chose to add various torn pattern papers and layer a custom Unique Laser Designs Circle Pattern/Stencil in between the layers.

And among the layered flowers, I've added various butterflies.

On my next LO, I loved working with the Honeycomb Stencil and word fillers. Figuring the placement of the Honeycomb and adding the word fillers is various spaces just keeps your eyes moving about the page.

Just look at the dimension of the honeycomb! Add a mini pop dot for added height to the honeycomb word.

And these feathers are just love! Just the right thickness for layering on your page and not to thick for those that don't like much layering. These are such beautiful pieces to add to your scrapbook pages and greeting cards. Just the right touch for adding texture and a bit of excitement to your creations.

Hot Air Ballons are Hip, Hot, and Huge!

Trends, Fads, Hot, or in style.. which ever way you look at it.. Hot Air Balloons are totally  hip. 

I see them on fabrics, scrapbook paper, stickers, pins, stamp sets and of course Unique Laser Designs has a wood Hot Air Balloon embellishment that I just love!  I want to put it on everything.  So I did..

I made a tag, a mini album, and a wall décor project.  I have also taught one class using the hot air balloons, and everyone wanted more.  Here is a look at 3 of my projects I created using the Hot Air Balloons along with a few other embellishments from Unique Laser Designs.



Here is my Glittered Up Hot Air Balloon, this hangs in my studio.. love all the Glitter~



I used this Hot Air Balloon on a cover of a mini album, along with a set of the clouds  & mini word art.
I stamped, added texture and used paper for this balloon.

Here is a more detailed project.  I used one of the ULD tags, 2 clouds, and another Hot Air Balloon.

Did you know ULD has wood stencils?  Yep.. I used it on this tag.. love how thick I can make the details
if I want.. or I can do less if I wanted, but I love the deep shape. 

These are the ULD shapes I used on this project, along with the stenciled image.

I used my Rubber Café Glue and Glitter for the Balloon.

Do you love the Hot Air Balloons too?  If so stop over to the Unique Laser Designs shop and pick up a few.. you can't get just one.. because you will want at least two.  Did I mention they are only $1 each?  Yes.. how the heck can an embellishment this cute be only $1..
