Mmmmm! Lunch With Max

Well, howdy there new friends!  It's Renee Robbins here from Scrap Owl with today's blog post.  I'm so excited that I get to hang out with the sweet folks over here at uniQue Laser Designs for a couple of months.  They have already been super gracious and all of the projects I have seen have been incredibly inspiring.

I've had a great time working with the various products I received from uniQue Laser Designs.  Once I got started playing with the wood and cork embellishments I just couldn't stop!  For this post, I wanted to share this sweet layout I completed of my beautiful nephew... well, he's beautiful in one photo, but a messy little monster in the other.  Ha!

Making A Messy Masterpiece

So, as a proud Aunt, I have to confess that the title of this section is really about my nephew and not the layout, but using the pieces from uniQue Laser Designs certainly helped elevate my page to the next level.  To create it I used the Large Wacky Mmmmm  as the title.  The foundation is cork and I didn't do anything extra to it since it was simply perfect the way it was.  But, when I splattered my Pear Tart irRESISTible texture spray, the title did happen to get a little coating.  All part of the fun, I say!

However, in addition to the title, I also used wood Splats to dress up the page.  The Splats come in a 6 splat set, but I only needed to use four of them for the optimal effect.  Plus, this way I have two more for another project!!

To dress up my splats, I heat embossed them using Recollections Pearl Embossing Powder.  The clear shine that the pearl provides to the wood gives it an almost translucent metallic look.  Depending on the way the light hits the Splat, you can see the wood grain or it looks silver.  Certainly a cool effect.

Just a Few More Details

Also on this layout, I used Pink Paislee's Solstice Bora Bora patterned paper for the foundation, Studio Calico's South of Market Lettuce, Turnip the Beet for the circle, Pebbles' Jen Hadfield Homemade 1905 Pine for the banner, and Chickaniddy Crafts' Scrumptious for the stripes and journaling stickers.

My First Unique Laser Designs (ULD) Guest Designer Mixed Media/Art Journal Layout!

I just KNEW I had to kick off my first ULD Guest Designer project with a BANG! There was no other way to do it than with……drum roll, please…….ULD's chipboard "SPLATS". I couldn't get my acrylic paint on those yummies fast enough! LOL!

"King of Kings" Mixed Media Art Journal Layout

Let's jump right in with my mixed media art journal layout process:

Start with a 12 x12 piece of canvas textured white cardstock.

Use a brush stroke to paint a black, semi-gloss background.

Create a textured backdrop using a brick wall stencil & gesso.

Position three pieces of paper on top of your background as shown above.

Use the Golden high flow acrylic paint to create paint splatters.

Loosen the cap of the Golden 'florescent pink'
acrylic paint bottle. Apply paint straight from the bottle using a 'flicking' method.

Remove the three pieces of paper.

Use a paint brush to lightly smear some of the paint on the brick.
Dry with a heat gun.

Position two more pieces of paper as shown above.

Apply 'indigo blue' paint in the same "flicking" motion,
remove the two pieces of paper,
and lightly smear the 'indigo blue' on the brick. Dry completely.

Flick & smear Golden 'dioxazine purple' acrylic paint. Dry Completely.
Add more 'florescent pink'. Dry completely.

Flick Golden 'green gold' acrylic paint. Dry completely.

Apply Golden 'iridescent' acrylic paint using a 'flicking' motion. Dry completely.

Apply gesso to Unique Laser Design's "Splats" shapes. Allow to dry.

Add Golden high flow acrylic paint to the ULD "Splats". Dry completely.

Adhere "Splats" to the background using matte medium.

Add smaller "Splats" on top of larger ones to give a nice layered look.

Outline all "Splats" with a black Uni-ball Signo pen.

Use gold foil Thickers to create your "King of Kings" sentiment.

Use matte medium to adhere the alphas to the background.

Free draw a crown on a 4 x 6 golden colored piece of card stock.

Trace the crown with a black Faber-Castell Pitt artist pen.

Add bling rhinestones to the crown.

Trace sentiment with a black Uni-ball Signo pen & silver Sakura Gelly Roll pen.

Distress the edges of the white card stock with black ink.

A splash of color

Time to make a "splash" with these paint splats from Unique Laser Designs.  I think they are perfect for embellishing my layout about our trip to the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC.

I simply used gelatos (from Faber-Castell) to color on them.  

The color goes on so smoothly.

I think they would also be great for layouts about 

swim lessons,

or puddle jumping, 

or painting my room a new color, 

or art class,

or a day at the beach, 

or dad's giant cannonball splash into the pool, 

or muddy footprints from a rainy day.

SO versatile--I think I may need to order some more splats!

Hello Unique Laser Design Fans,

Today I am showing you a one page layout I did, using tons of ULD products.

I love the splats that ULD has and I had a plan for them the second I received them.  I also LOVE the wood brick stencils and arrows.. all of these items came together for my layout.

The stencil can be used on projects or saved and used over and over again.

I bet you can think of other ways to use the splats.

You can write on the bricks to high light important dates.

It really does look like mud.

Keep Calm And...

Play Paintball!  Hey there, Michelle here to share this decorative paintball frame featuring a set of splats from Unique Laser Designs.  

 

 These splats are great for so many projects.  I was inspired by my family that loves to play paintball and the oh so common "keep calm" sayings.

To make the frame I painted an unfinished frame black and splattered with red, yellow and blue acrylic paint.  I then painted the splats in the same colors.  To make the insert, I printed on white paper, then covered the words with small strips before splattering it with paint as well. So what are you waiting for, keep calm and play with some Unique Laser Designs.
