I often like to alter original cigar boxes to use as decorative storage in my studio, or as gifts to give. Today I have a very simple altered cigar box to share with you that will be used at work to store tea bags.
For this cigar box alteration, you really don't need many items. Because I love the shape and the wood of this box, I decided to keep it simple to keep the look of the wood showing through.
Using white acrylic paint mixed with water to dilute. I used a sponge brush to create a white wash effect. If at any point you realize you have too much paint on your box, just use a baby wipe or wet your brush down to move/thin the paint. You also want to work in the direction of the wood grain, not against it as this would cause noticable splotches of paint.
Once this step has dried, you can either leave it as is or seal it using a matte or glossy finish. Be sure to allow this to dry before moving on to decorating your lid.
I chose to use ULD's 3D Butterfly to embellish the lid. I used the same whitewash technique on the butterfly, but before the paint dried I sprinkled the top with Glamour Dust.
Let's began adding the embellishments to complete the box decor.
Next, I created two embellished tags using Wood Cups. I altered each cup a bit differently.
Here's an upclose look of each of the cups I altered.
On the first tag, I used the cup where I drew a little flower and colored it.
Here you will see I also used the negative from another design piece and added more glitter to give the look of sugar cubes.
My last tag has a bit more of a Fall look to it with a splash of blue. I altered this cup in my favorite background texture of polka dots.
